二、教学分析

1.教学内容分析

本节课的内容是新课标高中英语必修三,Unit5, Canada- “The True North”的阅读(Reading)部分。本文是一篇游记,记述了李黛雨和刘倩这两个女孩乘坐火车横穿加拿大的旅途见闻。通过两位女孩的旅途经历来介绍加拿大的自然风光、主要城市、人口情况、动物、淡水资源等人文地理情况。这种介绍国家的方式十分生动,能引发学生的学习兴趣;但是相对应的,对学生来说,难度也有所加大。

2.学生分析

本教案设计的教学对象是普通高中高一学生。对于普通高中的高一学生已有的知识、技能水平来说,本篇文章材料难度较大。


三、教学目标

Teaching Objectives:

  1. Instructional objectives

(1) Teach students new words and phrases in this passage

(2) Teach students how to use location words and sentences to describe things in daily life

(3) Make students communicate with classmates in English by using the knowledge they learned in class

2. Educational objectives

(1) To train students’ reading skills (such as guessing the meaning of new words in the context, the speed of reading and how to skim and scan by tasks).

(2) To train students’ reading comprehension ability (such as getting messages from what they read)

(3) To raise students’ motivation of reading and make them learn how to evaluate their class performance

(4) To make students learn some geographical knowledge and multicultural background of Canada, broaden students’ international horizons and make them feel more pride of their mother land- China

3. Personal objectives

(1) To practice TBLTtask-based language teachingmethod by using work sheet to make student understand the passage

(2) To accumulate the experience of controlling different tasks’ times

    Some people have the idea that you can cross Canada in less than five days, but they forget the fact that Canada is 5,500 kilometres from coast to coast. Here in Vancouver, you’re in Canada’s warmest part. People say it is Canada’s most beautiful city, surrounded by mountains and the Pacific Ocean.

    Skiing in the Rocky Mountains and sailing in the harbour make Vancouver one of Canada’s most popular cities to live in. Its population is increasing rapidly. The coast north of Vancouver has some of the oldest and most beautiful forests in the world. It is so wet there that the trees are extremely tall, some measuring over 90 metres. ”

    That afternoon aboard the train, the cousins settled down in their seats. Earlier that day, when they crossed the Rocky Mountains, they managed to catch sight of some mountain goats and even a grizzly bear and an eagle. Their next stop was Calgary, which is famous for the Calgary Stampede.

    Cowboys from all over the world come to compete in the Stampede. Many of them have a gift for riding wild horses and can win thousands of dollars in prizes.

    After two days’ travel, the girls began to realize that Canada is quite empty. At school, they had learned that most Canadians live within a few hundred kilometres of the USA border, and Canada’s population is only slightly over thirty million, but now they were amazed to see such an empty country.

    They went through a wheat-growing province and saw farms that covered thousands of acres. After dinner, they were back in an urban area, the busy port city of Thunder Bay at the top of the Great Lakes. The girls were surprised at the fact that ocean ships can sail up the Great Lakes.

    Because of the Great Lakes, they learned, Canada has more fresh water than any other country in the world. In fact, it has one-third of the world’s total fresh water, and much of it is in the Great Lakes.
