I. Introduction

Roald Dahl was born in 1916 in Wales. The losses of his family were frequent. He was a famous author of fantastic and humorous adult news, but mainly the stories he wrote for his young audience made him legendary.

Some of his works have been adapted to film (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). He died in 1990 at the age of 74, because of a blood disorder.

The landlady was first published in ‘The New Yorker' magazine in 1959, and has since appeared in many collections of Dahl's stories, the first of which was “Kiss, kiss”.

The turning point is the last sentence, when the land lady said: “No my dear, only you”. The reader is lost, because this is a contradiction with what she said before, and the two signatures in the guest book. We suspect that the landlady lies.

2. The reader is in a permanent wait, becausewedoubt thatsomethingabnormalgoingto happen.  But what? We are impatient, alert, anxious and curious during the whole story.

IV. Conclusion

1. To be honest, I don’t really know if I like this new or not. I’ve never really been attracted by detective novels. I found this story long and it’s annoying that the mystery at the end is not resolved.

On the other hand, I'm surprised that I haven’t nearly any difficulty for understanding this new in English. I liked the character of the woman, since the author does not indicate and does not imply but he succeed to make her very intriguing.

2.”Ok” Billy said, perplexed of this answer who’s contradicted the old woman always smiling.”Thank you for this cup of tea, I’ll go to bed. It’s getting late and the travel was tiring.”

Billy went to the staircase, looked a last once the fire, and the landlady which was tidy up the tray of tea. He ascended to first-floor dozing in. He opened his door. Suddenly he woke up, all his senses alert!!

Two naked men were there. One sat on a chair, the other standing leaning against the window.

“Oh no.” Billy said his stomach knotted. He understood that he was in the wrong floor.

Of the stomach these two men were a long scar. A straw exceeded of Mr. Temple. Stuffed, like these pets. Billy cried. The landlady runs up.

“No panic, no panic!!” She repeated.

“Tea is always also effectively ." said the old woman, talking to herself.
