Presentation582 Words / ~ pages Gymnasium Landeck A visit to London – the Royal Academy This institution used to be at Somerset House, in the block to the right of the Strand entrance. Sir William Chambers, who was the first treasurer of the Academy, designed this part of his great building specially for the Academy. Here the exhibitions were held till the removal to Burlington House in 1873. The plate in the Exhibition room is mostly Rowlandson217;s work, for he not only drew the figures but sketched the canvasses massed on the walls. He does not seem to have represented the exhibition of any particular year, but he does convey exactly the character of the Royal academy show of the time, with its mixture of large and expressively historical pictures, its flattering portraits and the smaller and more engaging genre pictures and beautiful landscapes. It is amusing to…[show more]

Reflection942 Words / ~2 pages Ruhr-Universität Bochum - RUB When I read the article by Madeleine Schröder about converting Shakespeare&#8217;s Romeo and Juliet into text-speak as way of postmodern behaviour, I wondered about postmodern stylistics. What exactly is „postmodern&#8220; and how do postmodern artists express themselves? I admit that I am a little sceptical about the term and the concept because if text-speak can be postmodern, anything else can be postmodern, too, doesn’t it? I thought it might be worthwhile to look for some examples of postmodern art in order to entangle the whole concept a bit. To get an overview, I first checked what Wikipedia had to say about postmodern art, I was hoping to get an idea about some key features, and I found this quote (I highlighted some words): One compact definition is that postmodernism rejects modernisms grand…[show more]

Depending on the person, it continues in two possible ways: Either the new passenger is well-travelled and has lots of stories to tell or the hitchhiker will pull out a battle axe, katana or any other deadly weapon out from under his jacket and slaughter the driver in the most barbarous way possible splattering blood…[show more]
Term paper1.749 Words / ~12 pages Saddleback College, Mission Viejo An analysis of Dada and Marcel Duchamp´s art 12 Marcel Duchamp’s Dada From Zurich, Switzerland, came Dadaism, one of the symptoms of deep dillusionment caused by the horrors of World War I. The word Dada, found at random from the pages of a dictionary “does not mean anything”. It can be pronounced in any language like a word of nonsense, which symbolizes the nature of the movement. As Andre Breton claims “Dada is a state of mind. Dada is artistic free thinking. Dada gives itself to nothing.” In fact, Dada is not suppose to be definable, but a way of protesting and expressing a rebellious feeling against society and all its aspects of war and culture. Dadaists such as Tristan Tzara, Hugo Ball and Jean Arp would meet at Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich, and listen to “noise concerts” that were orchestrated and also listen to improvised poetry…[show more]
