A poem about Hartlands School

A boy called Thomas arrived at Hartland school

But some boys treated him like a fool.

The first night Bradley walked into his room

Thomas soon felt – it was his doom.

Bradley always bothered him

So Thomas became very grim.

He couldn’t sleep well at night

But he didn’t dare to fight.

A teacher called Mr. Clay

Wanted to help him to find his way

Thomas was happy having a friend

But the attacks of Brad didn’t end.

Even the teachers couldn’t identify Brad

That’s why everybody’s feeling sad.

Brad continued dealing with drugs

Mr. Hansen couldn’t catch the thugs.

The story didn’t have a happy end

And Thomas lost Mr. Clay as his friend.

Mr. Hansen and Mr. Clay had to go

So their ideas couldn’t grow.

Write a ballad or folk song telling the story.

Betrayed

1.    I was afraid - I  was petrified

I thought I could never live

without my mum by my side.

And I spent so many nights  -

thinking how Brad did me wrong

I started to cry  -

Because I didn’t  know to hold my head up high.

2.    But he’s so mean – so terribly mean

I don’ t have a chance

He’s always bothering me.

He walked into my room

With a canting look upon his face

I shouldn’t open the door

But I can’t win the race.

Chorus:

I feel betrayed – so much betrayed

Because my hopes are going to fade

Even the teachers don’t know how to fight

There’s still so much darkness with no hope of light.

3.    It took all the strength  - not to fall apart

I tried hard to mend

the pieces of my lonely heart.

I spent so many nights  -

just feeling sorry for myself

And I grew strong  -

because I tried to learn how to get along.

Chorus:

Bridge:

He’s here and always around

He always tries to get me down

I hate his in.....[read full text]

 A letter to Thomas Walker

Dear Thomas,

I heard about your problems at Hartland Schools. I can understand that you don’t feel very well at Hartland. But I think it’s the right school for you because there are many friendly people around you. You learn so much for your life and finally you will be very independent.

I know Brad is very nasty to you – maybe because you are the new one. But I think Brad will never be happy if he continues to act like that. He’s a poor boy and he has been missing so many things in his life that he can’ t get  rid of his problems.

Brad’s father said to Mr. Graham that he didn’t send his son to Hartlands School to discuss things and to learn how to learn to live democratically and fairly with other people.  So you can see Brad is educated very badly. He never learned to be fair and to do social things. He can’t be helpful, he is very selfish.

He just wants to be popular but he canonlyuse force. So he’s using  violence and is bullying everybody who’s different.  That’s the reason why he became criminal.  You have to be a very tough .....

Robin:                What would change if Brad leaves school?

Mr. Hansen:      I'm not sure whatwill change.Butthe constantbullyingwouldcertainlycease. Ifthere is nolonger aleader, who always doescriminalactivities, it wouldcertainly have a positiveeffecton schoolcommunity.
