There are currently 3.7 million children living in poverty in the UK. That’s over a quarter of all children. 1.7 million of these children are living in severe poverty. In the UK 63% of children living in poverty are in a family where someone works. This affects the child’s education, health and day to day life.

There are many factor that causes child poverty. Families experience poverty for many reasons, but its fundamental cause is not having enough money to cope with the circumstances in which they are living. A family might move into poverty because of a rise in living costs or a drop in earnings through job loss.

Why is poverty and teenage crime often associated with each other? Many say it is because teenagers tend to be criminals. But others believe that the connection is about poverty. People who live in poverty are more likely to commit a crime. But why?

How does this affect the children? It affects their education, health and also their day to day life. Hence all the other difficulties that they face, attending school is not a priority to many of them. Their health is also in danger. Many children have stated that there are poor conditions in their homes.

During the winter the house is so cold that they can`t sleep. Many develop allergies because of the conditions. Living in poverty also affects their day to day life.

What can we do to reduce child poverty?

Many organizations over the world work to reduce child poverty. And it is important to keep in mind that child poverty has been reduced since the 90s. However, there is still a lot of children who live in poverty till this day.
