There are currently 3.7 million children living in poverty in the UK.
That’s over a quarter of all children. 1.7 million of these children are living in severe poverty. In the UK 63% of children living in poverty are in a family where someone works. This affects the child’s education, health and day to day life.
There are many factor that causes child poverty.
Families experience poverty for many reasons, but its fundamental cause is not having enough money to cope with the circumstances in which they are living. A family might move into poverty because of a rise in living costs or a drop in earnings through job loss.
