Classics, which come in multiple forms, both spiritual values and material wealth, are quintessence of human wisdom. Usually they express some artistic quality, which bears witness to the creativeness of the people in the past. Therefore, classics can always appeal to those who want to extract value from achievements of our predecessors.

People assume that classics have stood the test of time and can give human different perspectives to look through. The remarkable books that reveal the gradually developing ideological achievements, for example, can bring us new perspectives and knowledge, which helps us understand the human nature better.

With the social context and practice style changing, the mode of thinking is always transformed. However, themes of love, death, faith and life, no doubt, can always touch deeply people’s heart. From the characters and the plot of the story in Les Miserables, we can discover Victor Hugo’s notion of humanism.

From the love story of Jane and St John Rivers, we can see a female image with strong self-consciousness. The same ideas show up again and again in the classic books that manifest the author’s way of thinking. We read the classic books, along with the author’s joy or sadness, resonating with those with profound meanings words.

Although classics comprise the cream of a wide range of literature, music, films, structures, etc., the obsessive attention to classics will have a negative effect on our own creativity. When we focus on what we’ve already achieved, we become trapped into fixed mind-sets and are easily content to rest on the success.

We regard the classics as authority that we cannot go beyond, and consequently our innovation and competitiveness are restricted. Besides, classics signify an ending of something in the meantime. When something arrives at its peak, it is also a turning point for such a thing from prosperity to decline.

A teacher, for example, has an assignment for his students- to photograph what can best embody the spring. When all students except one photograph the charming flowers, only one child takes a picture of a laughing boy with a kite dancing above him, which captures the viewers’ attention.

Classics afford us guidance and connection of the future, whereas they should not prevent us from pursuing new success. When we read and attempt to remember those so-called classics, it is actually an opportunity for us to recognize the past world. So, don’t forget that our task is to create the classics, which can represent the essence of thinking of our times.
