Comment- ,,Children owe their parents everything''

In the book ‘‘Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother”, published in 2012, the author, Amy Chua, wrote “ Chinese children must spend their lives by obeying them and making them proud’’. That’s where the statement “Kids owe their parent everything” comes from.

In other words, children need to be grateful, successful; obey their parents, show them your respect; assist and care them when they get older, in this case I mean when they are less productive and children can afford for themselves. It has been stereotypically the mind-set of Chinese parents.

I am from Vietnam. It is a neighboring country of China and the people there have properly similar mind-set, including my parents. So I want now to give my own opinion about the statement.

Firstly, children and parents are independent individuals. So they could decide on their own, what they want to do in their life and don’t always need to obey their parents.Though of course sometimes child isn't capable of comprehending the long-time consequences of the thing they wish for: I'm not suggesting that 5-year-olds should be fed chocolate at all meals if they happen to wish for that. What I mean here is the children could make decisions, which is moral accepted and has better long-time consequences.Surely, most of parents want the best for their children and think that their decision are best for them and force the children to do bravely what they want.

But sometimes, what the parents want aren’t the passions of the kids and in addition the their thoughts and decisions aren’t always right like they might think. The parent and child rather become true equals and can enjoy, love and respect each other as adults and peers.

Secondly, many people think that the children are indebted to their parents because they gave birth to children and raise them for many years, so the children need to pay them in later life. But nobody, and I mean absolutely nobody has ever had the choice or influence over to be born or who their parents are.

So it is not the reason for that the kids need obey their parents, be grateful, successful or excelled in all fields that the parent want them to either. It is not children’s decision to be born, so they don’t have therefor any obligation.

Despite of two opinion that I have wrote. We couldn’t forget that most parents love their children unconditionally and want the best for their children,so that why they are expected you to be grateful. They have given you attention, love, and assistance. So as a good person, I think the child from that parents should show them their love, respect or make things that makes them happy such as be successful. And am sure, they will never pay enough for what these parents have done for them.

All in all, the children don’t owe their parents anything. Every child has the right to decide about their life and how they behave to their parents on their own, but they shouldn’t forget what the parents have done for them and should be thankful for it.
