DISCOVERY ESSAY QUESTION

Life is full of choices and challenges for everyone. Life always has bad and good things for people. Discovery is helping people to realize what is good for them and also, we can find out, have an experience about something new. It is not about the results but it also challenges.

In everybody life, discovery is a long story about circle of life, opportunities, reality and regret. By side, it also mention about self discovery through nature. By reading some of the poems by Robert Frost such as ‘’The Road Not Taken’’ is a story about choosing the road of the persona and his realization about that decision at the end of the poem; ‘’The Tuft Of Flower’’, as a farmer, the persona would have experienced that all people are alone in their journey, even they work together and the beauty of nature that connect people while cutting down his crops in the morning; and the last one is “A Boundless Moment’’, tell people that sometime it is hard to tell the truth but you cannot pretend and deceive yourself.

All of these three poems are all symbolize about discovery of death, opportunity and isolate in life.

The Road Not Taken’’ by Robert Frost is a story about self discovery of the persona. That is an emotional and physical discovery of his life, his future. In the poem, Robert uses a metaphor of ‘’two road diverged’’ for life. It represents personal choices that people make.

When he stands in front of two roads, he has to choose only. At that moment, he is going to discovery about the challenges in making life choices. By using the emotive language ‘’sorry’’, the persona shows that he is uncertainly about his choice and his fear of regret.

The title of the poem ‘’The Road Not Taken’’ emphasizes there are possibilities and opportunities not discovery yet because your choices will affect the futures. And after passing the road that he chose, he realizes that both of the roads are the same. The persona has two same choices, but one of them will be good for him.

He had to think carefully and make it an individual choice. The low modality ‘’perhaps’’ represents his uncertainly again. He is not sure about his destiny when he starts his journey and his discovery. By side, the persona uses the personification ‘’wanted wear’’ and ‘’claim’’ for the road in order to give the human quality to the road, shows a personal connection between the persona and the road.

The third stanza is a metaphor about life’s choice. It relates that when decisions are made, you could not return, change your mine and take the other one, even it might be better. While reading the poem, the readers can image that the persona is feeling surprised and excited by the prospect of a new ‘’road’’ and his future when using the exclamation “Oh, I kept it first for another day’’.

Also he realizes both the roads are travelled in ‘’trodden black”. That is an imagery to reinforce that both of them are not travelled, represents the uncertainly feeling of the persona. He discovers the life choices are an individual’s responsibility and it is difficult to be certain.

Finally, the persona explores that his choice “has made all the difference”. The emotive language “sigh” represents the regret of the persona. However, by using the extended metaphor “I took the one less travelled by”, the persona discovers that he is ready to accept the unknown consequences of his decision and that his choice to follow an individual path, rather than conform.

While reading the poem “The Tuft of Flowers’’, the readers realizes that the persona explores all people are being isolated in their own journey, even they are with others in life. The structure of the poem is rhyming couplets which add to the sound quality and the meaning of the poem.

The persona finds out that the person ‘’who moved’’ the grass ‘’has been alone’’ and he ‘’must be’’ as same as him. The emotive word “alone” emphasizes that people are always isolated in their life and make the readers slow down. The high modality word “must” is repeated twice in order to support his idea: everyone is alone “whether they work together or apart”.

During the time that he works alone in the field, he explores the connection between human and nature as well as the beauty of them. He can enjoy the beauty of nature and the butterfly around. The personification and alliteration “bewildered butterfly” emphasizes the freedom and change his thinking about life.

Nearly the end of the poem, when “message from the dawn” has been sent to the persona and the butterfly, he accepts the beauty of living things next to him. That discovery helps him to realize that he is “no more alone” when working. The direct speech “whether they work together or apart” is repeated twice but in different meaning.

At the first time, it is belong to the meaning alone even that people work with others. On the other side, that sentence is told again in last couplet but not alone anymore. By side the workers and the persona are now having the beautiful nature around. The persona discovers that when you engage with the beauty of nature, you can feel connected to other people.

After all discoveries that he has, he changes his perspective that impact on his intellectual and emotional understanding about nature world.

He is dealing with the ideas of truth, joy, beauty, circle of life such as young, old, decay and death. In the first stanza, the persona uses the rhetorical question “but not a ghost” to create a beauty of mystery and he wants to believe that the tree is bloom even they are in winter by the symbol of spring “March”.

The hyperbole “yet too ready to believe the most” reinforces how much the persona tries to believe that is spring. He would prefer the new life rather than the winter landscape, which means death.

Oh, that’s the Paradise-in-bloom” refers that he thinks that tree is flowering by the direct speech technique. But by the way, he recognizes the truth that the tree is not in bloom. It is just a tree without life, symbolizes the decay and death of nature. It seems like normal moment of life, when the old death, the new generation, new life will star.

The use of bracket “(and we moved on)” indicates that the persona hopes the death has passed away and bring the lives for the trees. Also the tree is holding on to its some of last few leaves from the last year. However, those leaves are actually the white of snowball.

The persona’s expression of what they know is not true in this dramatic irony case.
