Suggest the possible environmental consequences of the changes in electricity consumption shown

There are lots of negative impacts of changes in electricity consumption, although the figures also prove some positives. The global electricity consumption overall rises dramatically between 2000-2050, from 40ExJ in 2000 to over 150ExJ in 2050. This suggests a serious negative impact for the environmental issues facing electricity consumption.

The increase in pollution due to production rising could lead to increased global warming and an accelerated release of Green House Gases (GHG) into the atmosphere which could speed up the enhanced greenhouse effect.

The large increase also suggests an demand rise due to population increases. With China and India at a combined population of 2.5bn people which is estimated to treble in the next 30 years, further searches for more energy for electricity consumption is crucial which may further worsen problems.

Competition for land resources is fierce, particularly in regard to those resources such as Wind and Nuclear which take up a large amount of space. Some power plants such at the ORNL in North America can take up to 40km^2 of land. In terms of wind-farms, 2 acres of land is needed for the production of 1 turbine, and so as Wind and Nuclear are estimated to increase, there could be negative effects for farm lands and forests which, may possibly be deforested to clear room for new plantations.

Although nuclear is a “green” energy resource in terms of C02 emissions the problem of waste disposal is a huge threat to the general public safety. Concerns over leaks are rising, particularly after the Fukushima crisis. While in operation Dai-ichi pumped 300 tons every day of radation contaminat.....

To conclude, although there are some minor positive impacts due to some renewable production, this is undermined by the total overall increase in non-renewable energies and negative impacts these will all have on .....
