Hello class I introduce you now the country south Africa.


Country

South Africa has a coastline that is two thousand five hundred kilometers long and bordering the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. The country covers an area of over one million square kilometers, which is three times the size of Germany.

Cities

The capital of South Africa is Pretoria, which is also responsible for the executive force.

Cape Town is responsible for the legislative and Bloemfontein is responsible for the judiciary.

The largest city in South Africa is Johannesburg.

Landscape

The landscape of South Africa is diverse, deserts and high mountains deep valleys, coasts, large rivers and sandy beaches are often seen.

Most of the South African rivers flow into the Indian Ocean, but the longest river at a thousand eight hundred and sixty kilometers, the Oranje flows into the Atlantic Ocean.

Almost all rivers of South Africa's, tiles from the Drakensberg which stretching across the country from northeast to southeast.

People

About 55.6 million people live in South Africa, most of them live in Johannesburg.

The proportion of black people in South Africa is seventy-nine percent, while the white population is nine percent.

South Africa has eleven national languages, the two most important are English and Afrikaans.


In South Africa there are many animals such as giraffes, hippos, antelopes, zebras and wild dogs.

In this land live the once dreaded five animals, the "BIG Five", that is lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhinoceros.


Apartheid

Apartheid is a state system what keep the whites and the blacks separate from each other, this mean they have different schools, towns and laws. This system was common in South Africa.

Apartheid means that the white Europeans stand over all blacks oppress these and the blacks have almost no rights.


Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela was born in 1918 and was called Rolihlahla, which means troublemaker, but his first teacher called him Nelson.

Later he opened the first black law firm that gave jobs to black lawyers.

In 1944 he formed the African National Congress which fight against the apartheid.

Mandela was often jailed because he was ready to break rules in his fight against the apartheid.


Later he has organized a three-day national strike and was jailed for that because it was bad for the economy.

Nelson Mandela was sent to the Robben Island Prison in 1964.

In 1980 the African National Congress started a campaign which was named ,,Release Mandela'' and posters of the Project was found all over the world.

1985 many famous musicians made the anti-apartheid record ,,Sun City''.

Three years later a big birthday concert for Mandela which called ,,freedomfest''.

A few years later in 1990 he was free and became the deputy president of the ANC and worked with the white president of south Africa to end the apartheid.

Mandela became one year later the first black president of South Africa.
