Hollywoo­d: Die Traumfab­rik und ihre Geschich­te - Ein Überblick

Today I´m talking about Hollywood, I have chosen this topic, because I´m very interested in stars and movies. Here is Hollywood; it is located in Los Angeles. Los Angeles is in the State California, on the west coast of the USA.

Hollywood is a district of Los Angeles. It is called dream factory, because it is the home of the “rich and famous”; it is also the city, where everything is possible. The name Hollywood means in German “Stechpalmenwald”. But you can´t translate it directly it is only the meaning.

Hollywood was founded in 1897 when the first cinema in the USA opened in Los Angeles. At first they filmed only filmlets in Hollywood, they only took several minutes. They filmed with a kinescope. It was the first camera ever made. In 1912 Cecil B. DeMill began to film in a horse stable, which was the first film production in Hollywood.

The movie was called “the squaw man”. It was also the first feature film. He and other producers like Samuel Goldfish, William Fox and Carl Lämmle have made Hollywood as the capital of film. The actors and actresses became famous. Here are for example Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks.

In 1922 the first deluxe cinemas opened in Hollywood. Now the smaller studios were bought up from bigger firms and all actors and actresses became big stars. At this year the Hollywood Bowl opened, too. The Hollywood Bowl is one of the world´s largest amphitheaters. It has got 18000 seats.

The Hollywood Bowl is the home of the L.A. philharmonic orchestra but there are many special rock and pop concerts, too.
