IT of His First Flight by Liam O’Flaherty

The problem of the given text is overcoming fears in life, every big deal begins with a first small step, and it’s the most difficult one to make. And the author highlights the importance of independence, self-belief and confidence and the need for motivation to attain goals.

The main character, or the protagonist, is a young seagull. It is a flat character who pretended to be round, because he wants to live and to eat and he tries to overcome his fears but he can’t and dive for the fish just to stay alive.

There are two settings in this text: the sea and the ledge. And these settings are opposed to each other. The stone is something lifeless, it’s very hard and we cannot change the form of it. And the sea is a source of life, it can get any shape and transform as you want.

The same contrast we can find in the young seagull, who wants to eat and to live and fights with his fears. He is like a stone, he can’t change his mindset and understand that he is a bird which was born to fly, but he is full of life, full of the wish to live, to fly like his next of kin and to find smth to eat.

To tell us about what is happening the author uses the objective description, giving us a generalized information about the character, his feelings without the author’s feeling to it.
