3 Introduction

When we hear the name Kate Middleton, we directly think of one thing: a very strong personality. A woman full of energy, power and coolness. We don’t know much about her, because she is so good to keep close her private life. And then, we think of the wonderful couple.

William and Kate, this couple is like fairy tail couple.

Kate is a bourgeois and William is a royal. The question is why a bourgeois can get to a royal and how she has developed.

This is what I try to answer in my work.

Now she’s a Duchess and her life is like a fairy tail. Is she a Modern Cinderella?

4Biographie

4.1 The ancestors

Her family came from a working-stock class with coal miners and builders.

Her grandmother, Dorothy Goldsmith, tried to push up the economic status of the family.

She achieved to push Kate’s mother, Carole Goldsmith, to became an airline hostess (for this time, it was a great job with a lot of money).

In this job, she met her husband Michael Middleton for the first time, and soon they were married.3

4.2 Childhood of Kate (Kindheit)

Kate Middleton doesn’t come from a long-established noble family; she came from a working-stock class family. Her mother was an air hostess and her father a pilot.

As Kate was born, Kate’s Mother was looking to push the economic status. She established an own mail-order party goods company, with ambitions of sending her children to private schools. This business made the family to multi-millionaires.

Together with her younger sister Philippa and her younger brother James,

Kate grew up in sheltered conditions in the English country of Berkshire Bucklebury.4

In her school career, Kate’s parents weren’t stingy. She goes to the highest and exclusive boarding schools in England. At first, she was at Down House. But there, she doesn’t feel comfortable because she was bullied, so she left it with the age of 13.

Then she goes to Marlborough College and left the school with 11 GCSEs and 3 A-level exams.

The last school is the St. Andrew’s Prep School in Scotland, where she met Prince William. In the first year, she was placed in the dormitory St. Salvators Hall. It was the same hall, Prince William housed. She was the first in her family to tried college.6

5Duchess and Duke of Cambridge

5.1 Collecting of William and Kate

William and Kate met in 2001 at the St. Andrew's Prep School in Scotland where they studied in the same year. It developed a good friendship because they realized how many similarities they have. They did almost everything together, they often shared breakfast and walked to classes together, but the two didn’t fall in love.

Kate had a lot of interest at senior Rupert Finch and William was busy with press and school.

In March 2002, William felt in love with Kate at a charity fashion show at the University because she has "knocked" him with her outfit literally. Kate weared a revealing dress and William saw Kate in a new way.

However, she gave him first refusal, because she met at this time another man.

During the year, in which they lived in a residential community together, they felt in love. End of 2002, this has been made public.8

5.2Temporary separation of the Dreamteam (Kurzzeitige Trennung des Traumpaares)

The couple separated in 2004 for the first time and in 2007 again.

In 2004, William parted from Kate because he felt hemmed. He travelled to Greece with some friends to girlfriends. This made Kate angry, and she was staying with men in clubs to make William jealous.

In 2007 they separated again. Kate wanted to have an engagement, but William was not ready for it. The permanent pressure from the media and the pressure of Kate with the engagement were too much for the prince.

That he wanted freedom and independence, he showed by staying in many clubs. Kate, however, did not mention to the press about the breakup and also suggested the offer, to make a film of the story of Kate and William.

After 3 months, the two found each other again and are still a happy couple.9

5.3The big wedding in Westminster Abbey

The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton took place on 29.04.2011 at Westminster Abbey in London.

This wedding is considered a major media event and was accompanied by the media worldwide. Over 1 million people celebrated in the streets of London, over 2 billion people have turned on the TV and nearly 2,000 wedding guests arrived to the ceremony in Westminster Abbey.

The groomsmen were Philippa Middleton, sister of the bride, as well as Prince Harry, the brother of the groom.

About Kate's wedding dress was previously a lot of speculation. Some experts suspected a pompous dress with flowers in her hair, like Diana. However, Kate had opted for a simple, elegant variation.

The upper part of the wedding dress consisted of lace flowers in the shoulder and arm. The floral motifs represented the symbols of the Kingdom of Great Britain. For Kate it was important to mix tradition with modernity, and made in UK.

A not too long veil and a diadem that Queen Elizabeth II. had borrowed, completed the outfit of the Duchess.

The bride entered the Westminster Abbey at 12:02 am with her father and her sister Philippa, who kept her veil.

At 12:22 clock the two were finally married.

After the ceremony, a carriage drawn by four white horses brought the couple to Buckingham Palace. This carriage was also on 29 July 1981 the carriage, in which Williams’s parents, Prince Charles and Diana, had sat after her wedding.

On the trip, the couple passed by over 1 million people who all celebrated in the streets. These people shouted "We want you!" - They wanted William and Kate as next king and queen.

In Buckingham Palace arrived, the two must go on the balcony outside and still kiss each other. Kate is a very shy person; it was obviously that it was clearly uncomfortable for her. Everybody were able to saw it at her posture, her tight smile and her red cheeks.

As no one expected, the two kissed again. This kiss was with 1.1 seconds a touch longer than the first.10

5.4 Pregnant with Prince George of Cambridge

Kate and William have kept secret the pregnancy very long. Kate wore only long sweaters to conceal.

On 12.03.2012 the pregnancy was given earlier than planned known. Kate had to go to hospital because she was suffering under severe morning sickness.

The whole world was interested in Kate's baby bump, yet the whole pregnancy was very private in itself. Again and again, Kate was questioned, but she was known to cool and never chatted a bit out of her private life.

The only thing they said was that they have a boy, and William wants a girl.

Nearly three weeks the press was to get a snapshot on the watch as Kate comes to the hospital for childbirth.

Just because they had made a secret of the matter, the snapshots are worth a fortune and accordingly many paparazzi lay down in front of her house on the lookout.

However, William and Kate have tricked the media on 22 July 2013. You have managed to go on Monday morning around 5 clock 30 secret paths into the St. Mary's Hospital, without being photographed by photographers. William himself is down because had used in Kate labour.

She gave birth on the same day a boy with 3800g at 16:24 clock.

He was given the name Prince George of Cambridge and intended to take the third place of the throne.

After the birth of a certificate has been in the hospital behind closed doors by a gynaecologist filled, what gender, weight, and name of the child confirmed. This certificate was

Then driven by a court official in a limousine to Buckingham Palace and mounted on a folding stand and set up.

In October 2013 George was baptized.11

6The „Kate effect“

The Kate Middleton effect is a trend effect that Kate has on others. Even she is in public, every eye is on her. The effect began after the announcement of the couple’s engagement in November 2010, where they became very much attention. No matter what the women wearing, it’s sold out worldwide.

For very much people of the world, she is a style icon.

Also her baby George is meanwhile known for his fashion, he gets attracted by his mother.

The Prince George effect, also known as the Royal Baby effect, is the trend effect that Prince George of Cambridge has on others, similar to his mother’s. The cloth that he was wrapped in when he was carried out of the hospital the day after his birth was sold out soon after.

The whole family is an example for people worldwide.

Here are two examples with dresses from Kate, which are affected with the “Kate effect”:

The first picture is a very new picture, it’s from the Australia trip with Husband and son.

7 Summary of the results of the topic “Kate Middleton – a Modern Cinderella?” and own Opinion

Despite that she is civil; she has achieved a lot in life, for example, that she was the first female student in her family or that she has been through all the bullying and remained yet so she is than she was ever, and nobody changed her.

In my view, Kate Middleton is a very strong woman. She is a role model in her mother role and she brings fresh air in the royal family. She is a style icon for everybody.

I think that Kate is a very sympathetic woman, who shows a lot of warmth and with her hands for fashion she brings a new smell into the life of the Kingdom.

Although she looks every day so perfect, she shows that she is only human. When she makes mistakes, she is smiling and laughing. It’s natural and sympathetic. She isn’t arrogant.

But one negative aspect and at the same time a good aspect is her secretiveness. She doesn’t talk much about her private life. I wish that she would reveal something more from her life. She tries to protect itself, but a little bit less were better.

I think she’s the best Duchess ever and I’d look forward to when she’s queen.
While it still takes, because Camilla is the next, but when Kate’s queen, I think the monarchy would be better and it would be a Modern Kingdom.
