  • Sports

Gaelic Football is a mix between rugby, basketball and soccer. Every team have 15 players on the 145 meters long and 90 meter wide field. The game goes 35 minutes, than is half time, after ten minutes the game goes on. The rules are a little bit difficult. This game is played with a ball that looks like a normal football. The player can play the ball with the complete body but the goalkeeper can`t pick up the ball with his hands.

The Gaelic football player can`t hold the ball longer than four steps, than he must pass the ball to someone or he bilk the ball like a basktetballplayer or he let the ball fall on his foot an than the ball comes in his hand again. The ball you can`t throw, he must with a hit go to another player. The gate looks like a mix between rugby and a soccer gate. Go the ball over the batten than gives this one point, goes the ball in the gate it gives three points.

But those two different points get sepertete count. So look the result like this maybe Kerry 2-12 Dublin 0-15. This means Kerry win with 18 points because the first figures say Kerry makes 2 goales, also 6 points plus 12 points

                            2 minutes

Hurling is very related like Gaelic Football, the same field, the same goale and the same point counting. The ball is different it looks like a baseball. The Player hit ball with a Hurley or with the hands or feeds. But the ball can`t touched with the hand when is on the ground.

    Music

So the Irish people are musical. Fames bands are the Script or the Celtic woman. Maybe you heard this name on the TV because they were for tow years here in Swiss. The Celtic woman makes traditional Irish music and this music love the Irish people so they gives the most famous concert and festivals in Ireland. To this music they dance the irshi dance. This is a feed dance like tap dance and very popular.

    Food

The main foods are potatoes in any variation. They love also meet and fish. The food is very related like de English food. So in the breakfast they eat eggs and sausages ore bacon. They have also scones, this are a little bread with raisin to eat warm with marmalade or single cream. Another highlight is the cheese cheddar. He is yellow or orange and is the most famous cheese in Ireland.

On Christmas time the Irish people bake a cookie called mice pies.

    Scones

In the past they were mostly flat and were baked in a griddle over the fire without bakery improver. Today we use Bakery improver and bake it in the oven.

In origin they come from Ireland but today you can’t keep them away from the English afternoon tea. This tradition nationalized because a duchess wanted a tea and a cookie. Since her servant brings her scones she always took them. With the time it fanned out in England.

    Languages

Irish Gaelic or English is the Question. The main langue is English because the Irish Gaelic has lots of different accents and those accents are not easy to understand. So every Irishman or woman learn English at school and maybe the make also any mistakes in the English languages.

A lot of the population of Republic of Ireland are roman catholic, then came church of Ireland, Muslim Presbyterian and Jewish (Jude). But also a many people have no religion. The church of Ireland is a part of the catholic and Reformed church.

    History

The Celtics is this nation with the Irish identify in person. They lived before christ in small settlements. The most important were the druids and the bards from the kings and lords. They enjoyed much of respect.

In the early time, after christ the Viking lived in Ireland and built towns like Dublin, Waterford, and Westford and began with the money economy. 1014 the Vikings lost a battle again the Norman Wilhelm who became the king from England. From 1534 Heinrich VIII from England began to spread his lordship over the whole island. The population was unhappy about that and rebellions began.

In 1845 began the big famine. The potatoes rooting ruined a big part of the crop (ernte) so the population famine for a year because those potatoes which were not rooted they used for the sowing (aussaat) in the next year. Most of the people survived the first hard winter with suffering. But the crop of this year was so worse, that the hungry population ate the small potatoes, which didn’t, rooted.

So they have had nothing for the sowing in the following year. Those who can emigrate from Ireland to the United States, Canada or Australia. Secondly in this time typhus and the pest fanned out (verbreitet sich).

The Englishman could help them but they looked away ant took every small potato for themselves and the grain/corn crop which was ok they took too to England. For Prevent that the farmers come back the Englishman snatch the barracks down. Much became homeless.

In 1921 a civil war began an in 1921 a civil war began against the English sovereign. The population won the war after two years and a free Irish state established. Seven years ago the Britain’s left Ireland.

    Claddagh ring

The claddagh ring is in Ireland well known. It originates from an Irish man who was sold as a slave by a journey. He worked by a goldsmith. He worked well but he missed his fiancée who left in Ireland. For assure her his love, he made this ring and sent it back to the village Claddagh in his home country. After coming back she wore it and waited for him. They married and since then the Claddagh ring fan out in whole Ireland.

At the west coast you could see steep cliffs, which are till 214 meters high and called the cliffs of Moher. In many films they are used. At the west coast you could see also the Brurren. It is a stone-landscape that is sanded in the early time by glaciers.
