Puberty in the Middle East

Between Religion and traditions

First, what is written here is all from friend's experiences which describes the puberty in the Middle East.

As we said in the roleplay about puberty and how it is a part in life where the body and the brain change.

We are going to know more about it through experiences from Eastern teenagers who went through it by asking questions.

So, the first question that I asked was, when did they learn about sex education and where.

Most of them said that they learnt it from themselves and school.

One said, we learnt it in 9th or even at some schools in 11th grade which is in their opinions late because it already has begun at the time; we did not know anything about it.

And when it begins, most of the time the parents don’t prepare their children, so the child should find his own way to find out about it or sometimes learn it from friends.

Some have taught about it at school but it was also not enough for them and most of the times they were embarrassed of asking questions.

So, all the information is found out by the child from some books or from older friends. And the cause of it that the eastern society is religious.

And we know that sex is forbidden before marriage so the child does not learn about this stuff, when also the parents do not talk about it, following the tradition and not getting the child into having sex, which is a shame.

I'm not saying that the eastern teenagers have no idea about what happens when they hit puberty but they learn about it from many sources.

the second question was, what would your parents do in case you did something that's not right.

So, from this point came a question in my mind which is, what were the problems they faced in the time of Puberty?

One said that as she has hit Puberty, everything got to change. Her life, her feelings, the way she looks to the world, her fashion and her look and of course her mind.

One of them had a lot of problems with her family and her friends. No one of her family could understand her feelings and her problems. She had difficult in schools and when she told her family, no one cared.

In the time when puberty hit, man feels as an adult and that he knows what should he does. And a lot does not accept other opinions from people and especially from family.

A lot of Teenagers are not allowed to stay late outside home and it is with the girls more than boys. Some families allow the boys to stay out for a late time at night which is not fair for the girls to stay home at the time when they need to go and have fun with friends.

The reason of that, that the girls may get rape at night or something bad could happen.

If an eastern teenager liked someone or is in a relationship with someone, they won't tell anyone about it even their families because of the religion and traditions.

Her dad and her uncles started making notes on her and on her clothes but she did care. Even though her family are free and open-minded. But they tried to understand her and never forced her to do something, she did not want to do it.

At the end, I hope I described the situation well and a bit of what's happening.
