The Battle of the Labyrinth

By Rick Riordan

The Battle of the Labyrinth is the fourth book in the series of Percy Jackson and The Olympians written by Rick Riordan. In this action packed book Percy Jackson (Son of Poseidon), Annabeth Chase (Daughter of Athena), Grover Underwood (Satyr) and Tyson (Cyclopes) decide to go on a quest in the dreaded Labyrinth to save Camp Half-Blood.

The Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan takes place in the underworld layer of the Labyrinth designed by genius architect Daedalus. In this story Percy, Annabeth, Grover and Tyson go on a quest to the the Labyrinth to seek out daedalus before Luke’s army of titans does.

The labyrinth may hold the answer to Grovers question of where Pan(the lost god of the wild)is? The group enter the Labyrinth in an entrance inside camp Half-blood. Days pass and they seem lost but suddenly they appear in a prison where Briares the Hundred-Handed one is being kept prisoner by Kampe.

The group rescue Briares and ask him to join the quest but he is traumatised by the years he has spent alone in a prison. The group leave him and head down to The Triple G Ranch where the meet an old friend…Nico di Angelo, Percy makes a deal with Geryon the owner of the ranch that he will let percy and his friends go if Percy cleans out the stables full of two thousand year old manure.

Percy succeeds by bringing water from a nearby river and white washing the whole stable. Geryon refuses to let them go so Percy defeats Geryon be shooting an arrow through his three hearts while he was standing sideways. The group decided to go to Hephaestus who said that he will help find daedalus if the group would investigate who has been using mount ST Helens( one of his forges).

The quest goes on and they realise that Daedalus was Quintus a former teacher at camp Half-blood. Meanwhile Grover had found Pan who was dying and gave Grover a secret. When they come back to camp Half-blood The war had began and it was Titans versus the Gods. Many died but in the end the daedalus gave up his life for the gods and so now the Labyrinth was sealed with Luke’s army trapped inside.

The writer uses a different tone for each piece of action weather it is Romance or sad or even happy and it is clear to understand how the characters felt. The writers use of language is very strong and descriptive helping the reader engage into the characters thoughts.

One of the things I like about this book is the fact that the author doesn't suddenly change the voice of the character(it aways remains Percy’s voice) like in some of the other books I have read and which I found very confusing. The authors range of vocabulary is immense and really powerful and it helps the reader to understand whats going one.

I definitely enjoyed reading this book and I cant wait till I find the next one. I would recommend this book to everybody who enjoys a good mix of all genres. This book was worth reading.
