Living on a Dynamic Earth: Earth’s age evolution and origin Introduction “Origin and Evolution of Earth: Research Questions for a Changing Planet” is published by The National Academies Press. It is a science book which contains several report findings of the universe. With the great effort of the National Research Council, total 10 research questions are screened out and discussed in the book. The research questions covered a variety of spatial and temporal scales from subatomic to planetary. Also, all the research questions fulfilled at least the following two criteria: it surpasses the borders of a narrow subfield of geological and planetary science; and it deals with eternal issues, for example the origins of Earth and life. This book is divided into 4 parts, including Origins, Earth’s Interior, A Habitable Planet, Hazards and Resources. In the first chapter, the formation of planets and life is being discussed. The second chapter studied the interior of Earth, including its mantle, crust and the plate tectonics theories. The third chapter inspected the factors causing the climate’s change and the reaction of Earth and life. The final chapter examined the feasibility in forecast of catastrophes, for example volcanic eruptions and earthquakes, and also the prediction of consequences. This report will be focusing on a research question developed from the first section - the formation

THE STAR ZOO

Characters:

Buff (Buffalo): about 40 years old.

He has cold eyes. He is selfish and over-confident. He wanted to merry Hummy for the first time he saw her. She hates him. He is very mean to her and he doesn’t understand her. I don’t think he loves her. When Hummy showed him animals at the star zoo he got went crazy and wanted to kill them.

However this wasn't his own fault. Every adult goes crazy after seeing animals because they don’t have an open mind like kids. He is also inventive. He had a small camera, so he could remember how to find Hummy next day. However this is his only good attribute.

Robot: he doesn’t have imagination and free mind.

He is just a product. He does whatever people told him, except that he couldn’t lie. He isn’t the main character is the story, but there is one important thing that he does. He createda robot kitten so human children could) play with it. After they get used to it he will bring them a real cat from Star ZOO.

My Ideal: People that made Star ZOO: the book says that star zoo was built by aa ecologists on earth.

They knew that earth was overheating and they wanted to save animals. They built a star ship madeout of plastic bottles, because they didn’t have much money. They took a male and a female of every animal species and put them in the Star ZOO. It is similar to the Bible story of Noel.

I think that it was really kind of this people that they wanted to save the animals. They knew that animals have feelings too, and that they would suffer on very hot earth. They didn’t have money to save them all, but it was still very good. They are not mentioned in the story, but I think that they are still very important.

Most negative person: I am pretty sure that everyone knows who it is. He is a classical negative character and peace breaker in this story.

It is Buffalo, also called Buff. He is disrespectfull, eccentric, mean and ignorant person. . He is older than Hummingbird. I didn’t like him from the point when he told Hummingbird, that she must marry him. However I thought that he was maybe madly in love and that he would get better in the continuation of the story, but he didn’t. He also damaged the Star ZOO and wanted to kill animals.

There is not much more to say about him. I really don’t want to be like him or have friends like he is.

Everybody must put something they love on fire and watch it burn. Then there’s the dancing round the fire. Nobody knows who you are on Remembering Night because you wear black clothes that cover you from head to toes. You can only see people’s eyes looking out of the eye-holes. So I went to Remembering Night with my father and mother. When the dance began they danced away and I couldn’t see them.

I was dancing in the middle of the crowd. The last dance began. You hold hands in a big circle round the fire and everybody dance together. At the end everybody fell down. We remember that we have a Galaxy, but we are alone. And then somebody said Hello to me. I couldn’t see who he was, but I could saw only his eyes. He asked me how old I was. I told him I’m sixteen. He said his name is Buff and that I must merry him.

The Book of Remembering says that women must merry any man who asks them on remembering night. So I lied to him that my name was Kate and then I ran away. Next day Buff came to our house. He said he found me because he had a little camera so he could picture my eyes. But I didn’t want to merry Buffalo. He was 20 years older than me and had very cold eyes. So when my father asked me if I want the Buffalo to be my husband fo.....

It was probably just a big old rock. Well, perhaps it contained gold or something. I could show the Star Council (it’s like a government on Just Like Home planet) that I was doing important work. I think that this was a good reason not to merry Buff. I wanted to find out, what this spaceship was made of. Find out what it is made I said. It is made of plast.....
