THE WHITE HOUSE

General facts: The White House is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country. The White House is a building in Washington, DC and it has been the official residence of all the presidents of the United States with the exception of George Washington.

Washington served from 1789 to 1797. By the time the White House was completed in 1800, John Adams was President. The house was rebuilt and restored after it was burned by the British in August 1814.It still houses the office of the Vice President.It formally received his name in 1901 by Theodore Roosevelt(14. September 1901 im Alter von 42 Jahren der 26. Präsident der Vereinigten Staaten und damit der jüngste Inhaber dieses Amtes in der amerikanischen Geschichte.) because of its white exterior paint.

The location and building: It is located at Pennsylvania Avenue and has the house number 1600. The location of the White House was chosen by President George Washington and the city planner Pierre L'Enfant. The architect was the Irish architect James Hoban, who took the Leinster House in Dublin, now the seat of the Irish Parliament as a model.The foundation stone for the building was on 13 October 1792 set.

This date is at the same time as the founding date of new capital. With the building of the White house also started building the city. The second President John Adams moved into it the first time on 1 November 1800th

The room distribution and its using: The White House has six floors--two basements, two public floors, and two floors for the First Family. The property has 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, 412 doors, 147 windows, 8 staircases, 3 elevators, a swimming pool, tennis court, a bowling alley and a basketball court.

The Oval Office is where the President does the business of the country--signing bills and Executive Orders and meeting with staff, visitors, and guests.The East Room (Ostsaal) is the largest representative hall of the Presidential seat. It is used for various events, such as press conferences, receptions, balls, or large state dinners.

The East Room is from television and the media of the most famous room in the White House. The room is located - as the name suggests(bereits sagt) - on the east side of the so-called State Floor, the ground floor, which are the representative state spaces. The East Room was the venue(schauplatz) for private and high official events.

For example, weddings were held of children, from Presidentfamilies. President Gerald Ford was sworn(vereidigt) in here in 1974 after the resignation8Rücktritt) of Richard Nixon as president. All the deceased (verstoben) President in office(im amt), such as Abraham Lincoln in 1865 and John F. Kennedy was laid(aufgebahrt) here in 1963.

The outdoor area: The White House is surrounded by several gardens, including: -The north lawn of the White House on the north side -The south lawn of the White House on the south side -The White House Rose Garden -The Jacqueline Kennedy Garden

Safety arrangements: The White House and the surrounding area is a high security zone which is equipped with modern security systems. The following actions protect the White House: -Overflight ban -Bunker - Sharpshooters -Cameras and sensors -Security forces
