Will Grayson, Will Grayson is a roman written by John Green and David Leuithan in 2010.
It’s about the life of two young men, named both Will Grayson and how their meeting changed their lives. The most particular thing about the novel is the collaboration between the two authors. John Green wrote all chapters from the one Will, the even numbers, and David Leuithan all of the other Will Grayson, the uneven ones.
Through their very different styles of writing the various characters appears much better. The Roman got into the New York Times Bestseller list and stays there tree weeks.
Summary:
Will Grayson is a really shy boy, lives in Chicago, who never wants to attract attention. His life rules are: 1. Don’t care too much, 2. Shut up. That’s not easy because his best and nearly only friend Tiny Cooper is a really striking person who hasn’t any inhibitions of showing his feelings in public.
Also he is described as “the world largest person who is really, really gay and also the world gayest person who is really, really large. Tiny is gay and he has a new boy he felt in love every few weeks. Will defends Tiny after a schoolmate got upset about gays in the looker room.
Now the others in school thinks Will be into Tiny by which Will draws the attention he do not want. One evening, Tiny calls him and relate that “Neutral Milk Hotel”, one of Wills favorite Bands is supposed to play in a bar in Chicago this evening. Together with Tiny, Gary and Jane, two friends of Tiny how are in an Alliance named Gay-Straight Alliance, he moves to the concert.
In the end, there is another band playing and Tiny bursts into tears because the next boy polishes him of. At this evening Will comes closer to Jane but he say she is not his type.
At the same time a boy with the same name wakes up and think about killing himself or killing everyone around him. He lives also in Chicago with his mother because his father left them a long time ago. He is depressed and lives completely retired. His only friend Maura is into him but he doesn’t really like her and also he is gay.
Every day he counts the hours until he can go home from school and does the only thing he loves in his life: chatting with his internet-love Isaac. Sometimes Maura dries to call or message him but he mostly ignores her.
The other Will is totally upset of Tiny’s plan to make a self-written musical named Tiny Dancer which based on Tinys life and has Will as a main character. During a meeting of the Gay-Straight Alliance which Will visits at the request of Tiny, Tiny suggests Will an Jane to date each other and managed a meeting.
Will drives with Jane to a man who creates fake IDs so he can goes to all concerts. In the car Jane tries to kiss Will but he removes his head. He knows he has feelings for her but he doesn’t admit it.
The other Will Grayson got pressed from Maura because she wants him to tell if he is gay or not. Will doesn’t answer her and gets abusive. The only person Will talks about his feelings and problems is his friend Issac, whom he wants to meet soon.
In the next time, Will and Jane write letters by their spins. Also Will writes to a band named “Maybe Dead Cats” if they could play a song for Jane. If Will, Jane and Tiny stand in front of the club, Will realize his fake ID says he is twenty so he can’t get into the concert.
After Tiny and Jane laughed at him because the Fake ID he got is useless, they go alone into the concert after Will says it’s okay for him to wait outside. Although Will is angry about it and in defiance he decides to do something he can do with the ID: go into a porn store.
They get out of the store and the one Will tells the other the story how he gets there. In this moment Maura calls Will and told him the real story about Isaac that she chats since over a year daily with him. Will is completely devastated when Tiny arrives to take his Will Grayson into the concert.
Will introduces Tiny the other Will and they all go back to the concert. Tiny and Will stand in front of the club and Tiny tells him stories about the love problems he had with some guys. The other Will takes a walk with Jane to let them alone for some time. He and Jane sit on a park bench and Jane talks about her ex-boyfriend she maybe likes again and that he organized the band too play a song for her.
Will is upset but he can’t tell her the truth. He tells her that he likes her and that she is beautiful and cute but he isn’t maybe the right guy for her. Finally they kiss each other but she confesses into getting back to her ex-boyfriend. Also Tiny and Will come closer and Will kisses a boy for the first time in life.
At the next day Will and Tiny are dating and they start a relationship.
In the next time Tiny is employed with his musical production.The boys discuss the play, "Tiny Dancer" and as usual, talk about Tiny's sense of fabulousness. Tiny and Will (his best friend Will Grayson) gets into a quarrel and don’t talk with each other for the next time.
Three days before the opening of the musical which now named “Hold me closer” Tiny and Will broke up because Will doesn’t really loves him. Also Will is sick about playing the supporting role in Tiny’s musical. Will is very sorry about breaking up and hurt Tiny so he tries to make something special to Tiny.
On the opening night of Tiny's musical, Will decides to show up to tell Tiny Cooper just how awesome he is by getting some other boys named Will Grayson to come see the show. At the end of the musical, will stands up and tells Tiny how much he appreciates him, and the other Will Graysons follow suit.
I think the idea of the book with the two characters and the two authors is really brilliant. I really love the friendship between Will and Tiny because they complete each other perfectly. The book has some really deep parts which I really like maybe because the main characters are both very pensive.
Overall I like the book very much and I would recommend everyone to read it.

Will Grayson:
He doesn’t want to get in focus and wants to stay mostly unknown in his school.
Also, he doesn’t wants to care because life is easier this way.
He loved music and one of his favorite groups is Neutral Milk Hotel
He likes Jane but he isn’t sure about a relationship with her. His friends are Gary, Tiny and Jane.
Tiny:
He is very large and very loud. He isn’t ashamed of anything and so he wants to make a musical about his life.
He is a member of the Straight-Gay Assistance.
Jane:
She likes Will and is a friend of Tyler
She has a good taste in music.
Will Grayson:
He doesn’t like society and hasn’t a lot of friends. He is depressed and take medications. Maura is his friend but he doesn’t like her so much and he tells her nothing about him. He has an internet-friend named Isaac which he really loves.
Isaac:
Will Grayson’s internet friend which he tells all about his life and his problems. Will felt in love with him but at the end, Isaac is only his friend Maura who makes a joke with him.
Maura:
Will’s friend. She hardly tries to get a relationship with Will because she is attracted to him but he has no confidence.
Wills Mom:
She is also depressed and stays often at home. She wants to help Will but he doesn’t speak to her too.
